Breeds

We have the choice of several strains of pheasant to suit you, your shoot and your guns, as well as many hybrids that can be sourced to order.

Old English Black Necks

Old English Black Necks

The popular Old English Black Necks are renowned for their holding traits and the ability to withstand shooting pressure.

Bazanty

Bazanty

Many guns like the Polish or Bazanty pheasant. Slightly smaller than the Black Neck, the Bazanty with its white ringed collar holds well in the coverts yet flushes willingly and flies strongly.

Melanistic

Melanistic

The striking coloured Melanistic pheasant always stands out on a shoot day and is my personal favourite. We do not have many but generally can mix a few in on most orders or occasionally supply complete orders as Melanistics by prior arrangement.

Kansas Crosses

Kansas Crosses

The Kansas Crosses are a small flighty bird that shows well on low ground shoots without much hillside. Ideal for flushing from cover crops although they have a reputation for wandering off if not watched.

Kansas Thunder

This year we will have Kansas Thunder (K Thunder) crosses. When hybridised with a Bazanty, Black Neck or other larger ‘traditional’ breed they produce a bird that is a strong flier but manageable and suits all types of shoots

Common Crosses

Common Crosses

Common crosses are a sure winner for the small DIY shoot. Medium to large in size with great holding ability, the common pheasant will give good sport.

Ex-layer

Ex-layer

Ex-layer pheasants are available from mid-June. Mature and with a reputation for looking after themselves, ex-layers are ideal for starting your season on 1st October.

Red Leg/French Partridge

Red Leg/French Partridge

Red leg or French partridge are renowned for their sporting presence. Ideal for shooting before the pheasants have tailed up, as the main quarry from September or for adding a bit of spice on the pheasant drives. (Our guns love it when a covey crosses the line on a shoot day.)

Grey/English Partridge

Grey/English Partridge

Grey or English partridge are known as the original game bird and, subject to the right conditions, any remaining stock will pair up and breed in the future. As with their French cousins, they will add zest to any shoot.

Mallard

Mallard

Our Mallard are renowned for their flying ability. Strong and well coloured they can be driven over the guns or shot flighting in at the end of the day.
